Westampton Police Department works directly with the teachers of Westampton to help educate our students. It is called the Adopt-A-Cop Program. A police officer is assigned to every 4th grade homeroom. They come in and talk to the students, bring in donuts, discuss their uniform, talk about education, and much more. I am so very lucky to have the Adopt-A-Cop that I have this year because he was a former student of mine. I remember him fondly as he was a great young man in 5th grade many years ago. His name is Aaron Plye and now he is a Westampton Police Officer. I feel proud what he has become even though I am only a piece of his education, I am proud of him! I asked him what he would like to say and this is what he wrote to me. “As an always talkative student, that did transfer into the real world with always being able to speak with anyone, and that helps me massively with my job. I have always been interested in sports and working as a team to achieve a common goal...just like how I was when I was on the middle school soccer and baseball (1 year) teams. I love being able to come back and see some of my teachers, as most did leave a lasting impact on me. Yourself in particular, I remember you being strict but always wanting us to learn and be our best! Middle School for me in terms of my memories are the sports events or gym events, as well as the teachers I had all made me feel like they cared. From yourself, Mr. Powers, Ms. Adams, The Yoerke's, Mr. Andris (who gave me a silly detention or two over the years) and even Ms. Herriman, the nurse (I know there are many more too). The whole school district made me feel a part of the town and school.”
I love this Adopt-A-Cop program and I hope it continues for years to come.
