rv leaders

This week Westampton eighth graders were able to meet with the RV Peer Leaders and learn about the high school many of them will be attending in September. Throughout this school year, the 8th grade teachers have been working to prepare their students for the next chapter, but let's face it, many times these messages fall on deaf ears. The 8th graders always seem more receptive to their peers, especially former Westampton students that literally sat in their seats, walked these hallways, and had the same teachers. The high school students imparted wisdom on the upcoming Freshman and answered questions related to classes, lunch, late and absence policies, and cell phone allowance. The Peer Leaders brought in different activities to the classes in order to open up discussion and allow the students to envision what daily life may look like next year.

As teachers, we are always excited to see which students decide to come back and visit. We had several siblings of current WMS students as part of the visitors. One of our former students shared how he knew his behavior while at WMS had not been the best and told the eighth graders in Mr. Burke’s class that he was humbled at RV. He went on to share the different activities he was involved in and his goals for the future which included enlisting in the military. Many of the students shared their experiences about the clubs and sports they had joined. One member of the RV Step Team gave some information to a few of the girls that were interested in joining the team next year.

As always, we were impressed with the visitors and pleased to see familiar faces in the hallways of WMS. We are looking forward to next year’s visit to see which of our current eighth grade students are eager to come back and share their experiences.
